A bit over a month ago I was on a business trip to Helsinki, and as I had a little extra time I decided to do some yarn shopping (my favorite pastime :)). I visited the ever so lovely Snurren lankakauppa which carries many of my favorite yarns. And of course I didn’t come home empty handed.
I had been playing around with a pattern of slipped stitches and knew I wanted to use them for a sock design. I also knew I wanted the design to include some unexpected pops of color so when I saw the Hedgehog Fibres Sock yarn in colorway Pesto, I knew I had found what I was looking for.
Having speckled yarn over the whole sock felt a bit too much so I decided to add a cotrasting color for the toes, heels and cuffs. I already had the dark gray Pirkanmaan kotityö Roosa nauha sukkalanka sock yarn in my stash and as it matches perfectly the dark spots of the Pesto colorway I thought they would make a good match.
The socks are knitted toe-up and combine the traditional gusset and heel flap heel with the extra roundness of the short-row heel. The stretchy fabric combined with the high instep of the heel construction guarantees a very well fitting sock. The slipped stitch pattern creates an interesting looking texture that looks almost like woven fabric.
